This is it folks, the ultimate T-shirt
tribute to the first "gore" film of all time - "BLOOD
FEAST". This bloody b-movie was made in 1963, it was directed
by the cinematic innovator Herschel Gordon Lewis. Before he made this
film Lewis mostly made low budget "nudie-cutie" films but
as the audience for these dried up he decided to go a different
route. He wanted to give the World something
it has never seen before - |
he wanted
to show DEATH up close and graphic - to show "people die with their eyes open" all in GORY Color!
Well he succeeded by single handedly creating the first "gore" film,
a BLOOD-n-GUTS bonanza! The story is based around a mother who wants
to give her daughter a special "Egyptian Feast". She goes
to a local caterer, Fuad Ramses, who
is more than happy to oblige her wishes for an unusual feast. Little
did mom know that freaky
Fuad planned on sacrificing her daughter at the party to appease
the Egyptian god "Ishtar". To prepare for this feast Fuad goes
on a body part
collecting rampage and hacks up half of the town! This gave HG Lewis
a perfect story line to show some of the most
graphic "gore'" ever put on celluloid. Tongues are ripped
out, heads are smashed in and a leg is hacked off - all in "Blood
Color"! I bet this film had 'em puking in all of the Drive-In's
that dared showed it! The film was a rural "hit" and
it spawned HG Lewis and company to spew out many more gorific films-
but none would have the success of "Blood Feast". Modern
gore films like "Friday the 13th", "Dawn of the
Dead" and countless others owe a special homage to "Blood
Feast" and visionary director HG Lewis, for it was he who
had the GUTS to do it first! |
